Meribel Luxury Ski Resort - Details
Description:
Meribel is almost entirely in chalet style and is one of France's most attractive ski resorts with a lively village centre. Nestling in the middle of Three Valleys, the skiing opportunities are endless and are one of the most convenient bases from which to explore 189 lifts and 600km of piste that make up the largest truly linked ski resorts in the world.
Méribel consists of several areas:
1. Méribel Les Allues is the main town, just referred to as Méribel.
2. Raffort village is just out of town, with one restaurant and a gondola connection to the main resort.
3. Raffort is mainly a privately run chalets that usually have their own minibus service.
4. Les Allues is the original village with its ancient church and village oven.
Meribel Village
The Méribel settlement is simply called Méribel and sprawls up a west-facing hillside from 1,400m to 1,750m. Méribel Centre (1,450m) is the commercial core – a one-street village with the tourist office as its focal point. It has a number of boutiques and souvenir shops beyond the usual sports shops, and one main supermarket. Both sides of the open valley are extensively networked with modern lifts. The lift capacity is so high that queues are a rarity but, as a result, the main runs inevitably become overcrowded.
Apres – ski and Entertainment:
If you want to relax after a long days skiing or want to get out of the chalet for the evening Méribel has a Jack’s Bar close to the piste that puts on a popular après-ski happy hour. Then there’s Le Rond Point which is equally busy as the lifts close. Le Loft, located above the ice-rink, that has live music, a fun atmosphere and stays open until late. Le Bowling has a six-lane alley and a bar with a pool table. Dick’s Tea-Bar, a branch of the Val d’Isère original, is also extremely popular.
Méribel has a surprisingly limited choice of recommended restaurants for a resort of its size, mainly because such a large proportion of its clientèle eat in their catered chalets:
1. Les Enfants Terribles has typical French food of a high quality.
2. La Cava is recommended for fondue,
